Heart Drive is an upcoming indie game created by lone developer Jonas Pfeiffer. It blends fishing with fast driving in a way that you've never seen before. While standing on top of a moving car, players use a fishing rod to catch gigantic mechanical fish.
The strange idea came from an unexpected place. "I needed a reason for the player to drive very fast," Pfeiffer said. "I tried a timed escort mission, too—but then I saw a person in my city transporting a fishing rod on their bike, and I found the look of it ridiculous. But it was perfect for my game!"
The game takes place in the Elseweird, a forgotten pocket dimension. It follows three buddies on the road to find strange animals known as Tape Fish. Heart Drive goes beyond its unique gameplay to look at larger issues. "The game is about things coming to an end and letting go of the past in various ways," Pfeiffer said, adding that the plot is based on his own life.
Pfeiffer is making Heart Drive by himself in Hamburg, Germany, where he works as a 3D artist for Tiny Roar. The game is based on Dredge and Night in the Woods and has car customization, monster cataloging, and a story-driven adventure.
Heart Drive is set to come out for Windows and Steam Deck in late 2026. You can add it to your wishlist on Steam.
