Jack Goodwin, a lone developer, has released a playable demo for Vitrified on Steam. The post-apocalyptic metroidvania centers on a survivor who navigates a mutant-infested landscape with the help of ALAN, a robot companion.

The main part of Vitrified's gameplay is working along with ALAN. The robot can get to high ledges first and pull the player up, move big boulders that are in the way, and go through radioactive areas that would hurt the player. These skills come together to make environmental puzzles where players have to figure out how to use ALAN's talents to move forward. ALAN also battles with the player, either on his own or when the player tells him to attack certain adversaries.

The demo takes about one hour to beat, but players that look for secrets will spend a longer time with it. Goodwin has been working on Vitrified by himself for four years and hopes to release the full version in late 2026.

One challenge Goodwin is particularly excited for players to experience is the worm fields, an area requiring careful timing to cross. "There are also strategies that save a lot of time, which even I struggle to do," Goodwin said, "so I'm excited to see how fast speedrunners can get across them."

The Vitrified demo is available now on Steam. Players can wishlist the full game on Steam.
